The city of Córdoba Cañete de Las Torres will celebrate the VI «flower streets» festival, with the theme «underwater backgrounds», from May 1 to 4, four days where the work of five florists and images will fill the most emblematic streets and corners. The event has already opened the registration period to select participating creators.
According to the Flower Streets Festival, consulted by Europa Press, Seawe focuses on the chosen theme in this sixth edition of the festival, which will immerse the visitor, as the slogan reveals, «Summerghete», into the vast underwater universe, in the species that inhabit it and in the very rich repertoire of elements that create in this environment, a true visual paradise that invites us to explore it through flowers.
«Flower Streets» invites florists and visual artists to present «a floral intervention project that bathes the visitor in the values of the chosen theme where the richness lies beneath the sea», while appreciating «the awareness of the enormous importance of attention and your Salvagardard».
All of this led the organization to establish «underwater backgrounds» as a central theme of this edition because, due to its importance and all the aforementioned, it can be approached from multiple perspectives.
The festival will be «a gateway to enter experiences and beauties that are often unknown.» Now Cañete de Las Torres will fill its streets «allowing you to create a parallel reality in an intentionally visual and didactic way through flowers.»
Selecting the project
Aspiring creators must submit a file of projects previously carried out in the artistic field or in floral intervention to showcase their career. The files should be sent to the email «streetsenflor@gmail.com» with the subject «Call for VI Flower Streets Festival».
The documentation to be submitted in the first phase consists of a PDF that includes a brief biography of the author or the requesting collective and a file of five to 15 images that clearly illustrate previous projects (if possible, include the author’s website address). The deadline for receiving applications is Friday, March 7 at 12:00.
In the second phase of selection, the artistic committee of «Flower Streets» will select creators or groups to develop a project for the ephemeral floral intervention at the VI Flower Festival with the theme «Underwater backgrounds». Subsequently, the five floral intervention spaces will be defined between the festival organization and the selected creators, who will have the thirteenth time for the development of a «site-specific» project as per the festival. The presented project must contain at least 60% floral or vegetable products.
The second phase of selection
In this second phase, a PDF of the floral intervention project must be presented, including the title, description, and model (photomontage, drawing, and 3D, among others). The visual design of the installation must be realistic and as close to the final installation.
In addition, its approach must take into account the specific location and clearly illustrate both the concept (descriptive text about the concept and the intervention message) and the assembly of the floral intervention: approximate measurements, quantity and typology of flowers to be used, specific lighting (if required) or budget. If additional tools are needed for execution and assembly, such as scaffolding or ladders, this should also be indicated in the project.
The authors of the selected projects commit to carrying out the proposed activity for the organization. The final intervention project may undergo certain variations depending on the non-compliance with these requirements or its unfeasibility due to the determination of private or public property of the places where they are designed.
The work of the selected artists ends with the inauguration of the festival, so the artists must be in Cañete de Las Torres for this ceremony to open the festival on May 1, where a new «street» blooms.
The selected artist teams cannot, in any case, exceed the maximum of three components, due to accommodation feasibility. The deadline for receiving the project is March 24 at 12:00.
Budget team
Five production bags worth 1,700 euros each (taxes included) will be awarded, covering taxes, production, and assembly of the project. The production payment will be made by issuing an official invoice by the creative artist in the city of Cañete de Las Torres, after completing the execution of the artistic creation.
Additionally, the Municipal Council of Cañete de Las Torres will be responsible for accommodation and maintenance during the festival days (May 28 and 30).
