The Andalusian Parliament has hosted the flag-raising ceremony and institutional Plenary session on February 28, Andalusia Day, in an event attended by the President of the Junta, Juanma Moreno. Jesús Aguirre, president of the regional Chamber, called for «dialogue and consensus» in his speech for the benefit of Andalusians.
He indicated that «the Parliament is where the voice of the people takes shape thanks to political plurality, represented by the different parliamentary groups. Let us strengthen ourselves in defending Andalusia based on that plurality, which is key to democratic health,» said Aguirre, adding, «Let no one tell us how Andalusians should be or act.»
Jesús Aguirre also advocated working from Andalusia for «the equality and territorial equity of Spain with a unanimous clamor from all political forces, without distinction, regardless of ideologies.» «Only with that equality can we achieve the public services of guarantee and quality that we yearn for. Claiming what belongs to us is a legitimate exercise and a responsibility,» he emphasized.
For the President of the Parliament, «being a public servant is an honor because it means being able to work for others» and, therefore, «we have the obligation to take action, implement legislative tools that provide our fellow citizens with instruments to progress and advance,» Aguirre stated, pointing out that «we must focus on gaining maximum trust and maintaining enthusiasm, and that our task dignifies our vocation as public servants.»
The event, attended by former President of the Junta, Susana Díaz, the First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, along with regional deputies and members of the Andalusian Government, among other attendees, concluded with the rendition of the anthem in the plenary hall by the women’s association ‘Coro Azahar de Cantillana’.
