The Museum of Malaga, under the Ministry of Culture and Sports, is hosting until May 4th the temporary exhibition ‘Felipe VI: a decade of the history of the Spanish Crown’, organized by the Diputación de la Grandeza and the Fundación Cultural de la Nobleza Española, in collaboration with the Andalusian Government, the City Council of Malaga, and the Unicaja Foundation, highlighting the institutional work of the monarch in the first decade of his reign.
The Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Macarena O’Neill, inaugurated this exhibition, which reviews, through a documentary video and large-format photographs, the most important events of Felipe VI’s decade of reign, both nationally and internationally, as well as socially, sportingly, and culturally. «A transversal and thematically visual journey about the meaning and profile of Their Majesties, as well as the high representation role that the Spanish Constitution assigns to them,» said the Deputy Minister.
Visitors will be able to see more than twenty images of great institutional significance, such as the king’s proclamation by the General Courts or the Princess of Asturias’s swearing-in of the Constitution, along with other more familiar photographs, such as the latest portrait of Don Felipe and Doña Letizia with their daughters in the gardens of Campo del Moro. The selected moments «invite us to reflect on how our Crown is indissolubly linked to our democracy, deeply committed to society within and outside the country. They also highlight the solid future projection of our Monarchy,» O’Neill pointed out.
The proposal, part of a national project, has been exhibited in recent months at the Royal Palace of Madrid, where it was inaugurated by Their Majesties the King and Queen, as well as at the Alhambra of Granada, the Alcázar of Seville, the Real Maestranza de Caballería of Zaragoza, the Duques de Soria Foundation, and the Palace of the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real. After Malaga, the exhibition will travel to cities like La Coruña, Valencia, or Palma de Mallorca, among others.
Curated by the History and Fine Arts academics Enrique Moradiellos and Publio López Mondéjar, two of the leading experts in recent history, the exhibition, complemented by a newspaper-format publication, is a journey through ten years of reign, work, dedication, and service to Spain and the Spanish people.
