The bullfighting event in Córdoba, the editorial Almuzara, and the Autism Association of Córdoba were honored, along with seven other individuals and organizations, with the «Andalusian flag,» which they will receive at an event scheduled for Thursday, February 20th at the Góngora G. Theatre.
«We proudly recognize the spirit of excellence and dedication of Córdoba, who serve as an inspirational example of talent, effort, and commitment,» stated Adolfo Molina, the Andalusian government delegate in Córdoba, who announced the awards in the province.
Among the recipients is the renowned cultural center, Atenas de Almodóvar del Río, which will celebrate its centenary on May 14, 2025, marking a hundred years of cultural dissemination and defense of human values. The center has remained open even during challenging times such as the civil war and dictatorship, showcasing its deep roots in the Carbooules community.
Another recipient, Schola cantorum «Santa Cecilia» from Puente Genil, was honored with the Andalusian flag for their exceptional career in sacred and polyphonic music interpretation. Their dedication and interpretative quality have established them as a regional reference in choral music.
The Andalusian flag for sports was awarded to Carmen Avilés Palos, a standout athlete specializing in the 400 meters at the Los Califas athletics club. Carmen has achieved significant milestones in her career, including a silver medal in the 4×400-meter relay and breaking the national record with a time of 3:25.25. She was also recognized as one of the top athletes of the year by the Sports Journalists Association in Córdoba.
This year, the Andalusian flag for Solidarity and Harmony was bestowed upon the Autism Association of Córdoba, celebrating their three decades of dedication to supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Since its founding in 1995, the association has grown to support over 300 families, offering specialized services and promoting social inclusion.
In addition to these honorees, Jicar, a construction company with a 65-year history, was recognized for its contribution to the construction and infrastructure sector in Andalusia. Founded in 1960, Jicar has been involved in significant civil works projects, such as the connection between Colada and Sierra Boyera, essential for the northern province of Córdova.
Blanca B. Landa del Castillo, a renowned researcher in the field of phytopathology, received the Andalusian flag for her exceptional work in studying diseases affecting olive groves. Her research on olive oil properties and cultivation techniques has made her an international reference in the field.
The editorial Almuzara was honored with the Andalusian flag for their 20 years of tireless work in promoting reading and culture in Córdoba. Almuzara has become a meeting place for readers, writers, and artists, democratizing access to knowledge and enriching the cultural landscape of the city.
Brígida Jiménez Herrera, an exceptional researcher specializing in olive cultivation and oleotechnology, received the Andalusian flag for Environmental Merit. Her studies on olive oil sensory characteristics and cultivation techniques have advanced the understanding of olive production.
The Federation of Peñas Córdoba, founded in 1964 to promote and preserve the city’s traditions and culture, was recognized with the Andalusian flag for Human Values. The federation has played a vital role in organizing cultural and festive activities, contributing to the cultural enrichment of Córdoba.
Lastly, the Andalusian flag for Lifetime Achievement was awarded to the bullfighter Juan Serrano Pineda, known as Finito in Córdoba. Born in 1971, Finito has become a notable figure in the world of bullfighting, known for his elegant style and refined technique. His performance, including the pardon of the bull «Tabernero» in 1994, has solidified his reputation as one of Spain’s top bullfighters.
