The Minister of Culture and Sports, Patricia del Pozo, has attended in Marbella (Malaga) the presentation of the Davis Cup tie that will take place at the Puente Romano Tennis Club from September 13 to 14, between Spain and Denmark, where she pointed out that it will «generate more than two million euros of economic impact» in the community.
Del Pozo, who thanked the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation for choosing Andalusia as the venue for this tie, which will grant access to the finals in Bologna, Italy, highlighted that «our commitment to sports in Andalusia and to tennis in particular is clear, as evidenced by events like the Copa del Rey in Huelva, the Sevilla Cup, the Pozoblanco Tennis Open, or the Nadia Mechaala Cup, not forgetting the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup finals that we have hosted in recent years.»
Patricia del Pozo also stated that «we are talking about one of the most beloved and anticipated events by sports fans in Spain, thanks to the quality of Spanish tennis players and their commitment to the national team. It took us one hundred editions to achieve our first victory, but since then, we are the country with the most titles in the 21st century and we already have six cups.»
To conclude, the Minister emphasized that «the Andalusian government of Juanma Moreno, as expected, is committed to these sporting events that help boost the economy of the hosting provinces, bringing wealth and employment to our land, and promoting physical exercise among citizens as a healthy element.»
On her part, the Mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, highlighted that being chosen as the venue for the fifth time not only demonstrates their organizational capacity to host internationally renowned sporting events but also shows a consolidated and mutual trust relationship between the Davis Cup and Marbella. «We are a city that loves sports and lives tennis intensely,» emphasized the mayor, who valued this event as «a worldwide showcase for our city and to project our best image.» Finally, she stressed that «we have been working from minute one and in coordination with all stakeholders to make this fifth Davis Cup in Marbella even more memorable than the previous ones.»
It will be the fifth time that the Davis Cup visits Marbella. Previously, it took place at the Puerto Banús Bullring in 2009 and at the same Puente Romano Tennis Club in 1989, 2018, and 2022. An average of 5,000 daily spectators is expected to attend the tie. The event, in addition to the Minister of Culture and Sports and the Mayor of Marbella, was attended by the President of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, Miguel Díaz; and the national team coach, David Ferrer; among other authorities.
