The Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality, through the Andalusian Women’s Institute (IAM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training, has recognized nine projects that promote gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence in Andalusian educational centers during the celebration of the 5th Andalusian Coeducation Congress held on January 27 and 28 in Córdoba.
In this edition, not only were research papers and experiences presented, but also good practices carried out in Andalusian classrooms on various topics were received: inclusive curriculum, non-sexist language, equal participation, teacher awareness and training, promotion of diverse models, prevention of gender-based violence, and equal sports. In total, 42 projects were presented. The awards were presented by the director of the Andalusian Women’s Institute, Olga Carrión, the Director General of Educational Participation and Inclusion, Almudena García, and the president of the Scientific Committee of the Andalusian Coeducation Congress, Consuelo Flecha, during the closing of this forum.
Regarding the good practices developed in non-university educational centers, 22 applications from three categories were received. The three selected initiatives each received 500 euros. In the category of coeducational projects by teachers or students, the winning initiative was «Daughters of the Sea» carried out at the IES Sol de Portocarrero in Almería. This project showcases the relationship of women with the sea throughout history. The materials are adapted to different educational stages, from the construction of a prow section with its figurehead, a mythological map, posters, or an escape room, among others.
In the category of coeducational projects carried out by parent associations, the award-winning performance is titled «Educating in Equality: Prevention of Gender-Based Violence from a Coeducational and Community Perspective» by the Provincial Federation of Parents’ Associations of Students (FAMPA) of the Los Olivos center in Linares (Jaén). This project includes the main actions carried out in the school years from 2020 to 2024, ranging from innovative programs such as the ‘Coeducational Families School’, to digital campaigns, teacher training, and creative events that have involved the entire educational community. Over 200 families have participated in the workshops, 150 teachers have been trained, and coeducational materials have been created.
On the other hand, in the category corresponding to coeducational projects carried out by associations, public or private entities that have been carried out in their own premises or in non-university educational centers, the initiative «Debunking Myths: Love on TikTok. Gender-Based Violence Prevention Workshops» by Jábega Social from Málaga has been awarded. This workshop has been implemented in numerous Secondary Education institutes in the province of Málaga and stands out for its participatory and creative approach. The activity aligns with the objectives of the State Pact against Gender-Based Violence, seeking a change in the perception of violence in relationships through critical analysis and rejection of macho violence.
In addition to the three awarded good practices, three educational centers have also received special recognition for their extraordinary work in favor of gender equality and the elimination of gender stereotypes: IES Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza in Andújar (Jaén) for their work «La Roldana. The Courageous Forgotten Sculptor», IES Nazarí in Salobreña (Granada) with their project «Inclusive Theater with a Gender Perspective», and IES Alfaguar in Vélez-Málaga (Málaga) for «Continuing to Ventilate» which promotes gender equality and rejection of macho violence.
